Event Details

Students should bring their camera, lenses, light meter, PocketWizards, etc. to this class.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Prerequisites: Students should have a basic understanding of photography and how ISO, shutter speeds and aperture values are used to create a proper exposure.

Mark Wallace is bringing his unique teaching style to Phoenix for a day of fun and learning about studio lighting. This workshop is like nothing Mark has done before: it's part teaching, part show. Video, animations, music, audience participation (it might be you on the stage) and more. This is a workshop that's as fun as it is educational.

Watch as Mark brings lighting principles to life on stage. Mark will be shooting live and showing his results (good or bad) on a huge video screen. You'll see how he designs, meters and shoots every photo. He'll show you the gear you need as well as lots of gear that you'll want (but can add to your studio later).

Mark is the creator of the video Studio Lighting Essentials for Portrait Photography and is known for his easy-to-understand teaching style. Millions have viewed his teaching on AdoramaTV, he's been a featured teacher on creativeLIVE (The Anatomy of a Photoshoot) and he's a regular contributor on photography gear blogs including PocketWizard, Sekonic and Profoto. Mark's down to earth language and humor make the principles of studio lighting understandable to anyone.

Topics included in this workshop:

  • The basics of flash photography
  • Understanding Sync speed
  • The language of light
  • Basic lighting styles
  • Metering light
  • Metering for ratios
